Meet Phil

Mental Health Clinician Meets Financial Planner

Hey, I’m Phil. I am a therapist and owner of Foundation Counseling in Marietta, Georgia. I’ve been a therapist since 2011 and absolutely love being able to serve people in that role. I love being part of someone’s journey into their heart, their pain and suffering and being able to offer care that facilitates healing and freedom.

So, how did I end up also becoming a financial planner? Well, as long as I can remember, finances have always intrigued me. And it’s not the money, per se, that fascinates me, but the concept of utilizing what one has optimally to empower with CHOICE. For the past decade, I have found myself reading up on financial topics in my free time– from the stock market, to investing, real estate, business structures, taxation, retirement planning, insurance, economics and the list goes on.

During this process of learning, I also began to find myself talking with my fellow therapists about financial planning. I started meeting with them and helping them with questions regarding estimated quarterly taxes, budgeting, student loans, tax efficiency, retirement accounts and other topics and have enjoyed it so much, I made the decision to take things to the next level and pursue a formal education.

I found that my alma mater, The University of Georgia, offered a gold standard Certified Financial Planner certificate program AND that it is ranked nationally in the top 10 programs in the US. I signed up right away and began working toward my education for financial planning. After completing the program, I took the Series 65 Exam to become licensed as a financial planner. Fast forward to now and here is Foundation Planning.

I am beyond ecstatic to offer my passion to my peers, equipped with the knowledge and education of a financial planner and the nurture and care of a therapist. I get that talking about finances is EXPOSING and VULNERABLE and great care must be taken when entering into that space with someone. My greatest hope is to offer ongoing financial planning for you, to provide the assurance that your financial home is taken care of and to build a lasting  and meaningful relationship with you through the process.

When I’m not counseling or planning, I love spending time with friends and family, hiking in nature, eating good food, listening to music and working in my yard.

Thanks for listening to my story and I hope I get to hear your story soon!
